Instant Impact Oleaster
(Elaeagnus x ebbingei)

Fully matured and ready to plant at any time of the year, Oleaster Instant Impact hedging is one our favourites with its hardy, tough nature, and small, white flowers, that soon bloom into little, orange berries during Spring. Find out more

It‰ۡó»s slightly unusual that Oleaster hedging produces bell-shaped flowers during Autumn, along with berries in Spring (as we would expect them to appear in reverse order to this), however, this only adds extra interest to the plant. The leaves are rich and dark green with little silver specks/undersides.

Oleaster Instant Impact hedging will surely light up your space all year, as well as adding a bit of wildlife interest to the garden, too!

As Oleaster is quite a hardy plant, it‰ۡó»s perfect for dry, windy, shady, exposed, and seaside sites- though we do not recommend place it in a cold/wet/alkaline site.

  • Growth height: Fast (40-60cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 2.5m+ Tall
  • Soil type: Normal
  • Exposure: Coastal, exposed, inland
  • Aspect: Full shade, full sun
  • Evergreen foliage? Yes

Buying Instant Impact makes it even easier- your plant will arrive on your doorstep fully matured, established, and ready to plant! All the beginning hard work has been done for you- you don‰ۡó»t even have to worry about the No. per metre. 1 instant impact trough = 1 metre of hedging.

You should only trim your Oleaster hedge in the late summer, after it has finished flowering. You will only need to trim/cut away diseased/unruly shoots as to maintain its shape. Ensure that any plain green leaved shoots are removed as and when they appear- cut back to where they have come through on the plant. If wanting the berries for yourself, ensure pruning is carried out in the middle of Spring.

Root Types Summary

  • Bare Root
    Bare Root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring. We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the season but they can be pre-ordered in summer. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options.

  • Pot Grown
    Pot Grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and make a convenient option. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements.

  • Root Ball
    Root Ball

Also field grown, root ball plants are scooped out of the ground using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks. They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly.

  • Instant Hedging
    Instant Hedging

Grown in troughs or bags that measure 50cm-1 metre in length and carefully clipped during the growing season. Our instant hegding troughs create a dramatic, instant hedge effect.
