The Laurustinus ‰ۡÌÝÌáEve Price,‰ۡó» is a stunning hedge that is ideal for ornamental purposes as an informal hedge and brings you lovely year-round interest with its wonderful style and range of colours. The flowers on this plant also transform into pretty, little blue-black berries, which welcome foraging birds- please acknowledge that we do not advise eating these berries, even though they are not classed as toxic. The oval-shaped leaves perfectly compliment the stylish pink buds, too.

The Viburnum tinus ‰ۡÌÝÌáEve Price,‰ۡó» can grow about 45cm per annum when it is young, but as it matures, the plant‰ۡó»s growth will begin to slow down- it will still reach a height of approximately 4m tall. It can create a lovely display in your garden and can be mixed with other evergreen hedge plants which flower at different times- this will provide you with visual interest through all the seasons.

The Viburnum tinus is a plant that is somewhat easy to grow and can grow in both partial and full shade. Natural sunlight is generally best to enable it to flower nicely. We do recommend placing in clay or moist soils, but it can also grow well in any but alkaline/dry soils. This hardy shrub will also tolerate windy, coastal, and exposed sites.

  • Growth height: Fast (40-60cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 2.5m+ Tall
  • Soil Type: Normal, Wet
  • Exposure: Coastal, Exposed
  • Aspect: Semi-shade, Full shade
  • Evergreen foliage? Yes

As it is pot grown, you can easily leave the plant in its pot for a few days/weeks before planting it. Just ensure you keep the plant well-watered, and it gets enough sun. Don't leave the it for too long, however, as you don't want the roots becoming root bound.

It will need to be trimmed after flowering in the late Spring, just by taking back the long shoots to slightly above the nodes, as well as needing to remove any diseased/dead wood to retain its shape and maintain a lovely, healthy plant.

  1. Prepare the soil by mixing in some compost. Dig the hole- this will have to be about twice the width of the root system, but the same depth.
  2. Remove the plant from its pot by placing one hand on the base of the plant, and the other at the bottom of the pot. Wriggle the pot away gently.
  3. Untangle the roots a little as they may be clumped together.
  4. Place the plant into the hole, ensuring the base of the stem is level with the surface of the soil. Follow this will backfilling the hole with your soil mix, and patting down lightly to secure.
  5. When you're done, thoroughly water the plant. Ensure you regularly water throughout its first year, as the plant needs plenty to be able to settle down, recover, and establish.
