Prunus lusitanica is easy to grow and can tolerate most soil conditions/site situations (even dry shade)- though we don't advise planting on coastal sites. However, we do highly recommend a chalk-based soil for Portuguese Laurel.

It's a hardy, resilient plant which can face many situations, but we advise providing some protection for very windy sites.
