Wild Cherry plants produce long-lasting flowers during Spring, which droop down in long clusters. The bright-green, oval leaves will provide a beautiful contrasting background to the blooms, and the glossy summer cherries add a gorgeous array of colour, too. By Autumn, this is all topped off with stunning, warmly coloured leaves.

Though wild cherries are more bitter than usual, they will always be snapped up quickly by the birds.

Please note: You must plant your bare root plant as soon as possible after delivery (within 2 days at most). The roots are tender and need to remain moist.

These 40/60cm bare root Wild Cherry plants have an average growth rate but will exceed 4m tall when planted in good conditions.

Though Wild Cherry plants are easiest to maintain at 4m (especially when looking for a hedge), they have an ultimate height of 12m.
  • Growth rate: Average (20-40cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 4m+ Tall
  • Soil type: Normal, chalk, clay
  • Exposure: Inland
  • Aspect: Full sun, semi-shade
  • Evergreen foliage? No

As soon as your bare root plant arrives, dunk it into a bucket of water for at least 2 hours. The roots must be wet when planted.

If planting as a hedge, we recommend keeping it looking natural by not clipping. It will not tolerate any vigorous pruning, either.

However, if wanting to give it a prune, do so after the fruiting season (during Winter is best, as the plant is dormant). It should only need a light prune, ideally only cutting back dead wood and branches.
