Copper Beech stands out with its bright purple and green shades during Spring and Summer, along with its coppery colour during Autumn- and even though it is known to be deciduous, you may often be treated with a little foliage during Winter, too! It will surely bring year-round interest to a dull Winter garden.

Just make sure that when your copper Beech Bare Root arrives, it is planted as soon as possible. You cannot leave the bare root for any longer than a couple days or so.

These 40/60cm bare root Copper Beech plants have an average growth rate but̴Ì?will exceed 6m tall in good conditions.

Your Copper Beech Bare Root plant will easily grow into a dense hedge, reaching an ultimate height of 6m, over time. It will thrive best in full sun or semi-shade and can tolerate pretty much any soil type.

  • Growth rate: Average (40-60cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 6m+ Tall
  • Soil type: Normal, chalk, clay
  • Exposure: Inland, coastal, exposed
  • Aspect: Full sun, semi-shade
  • Evergreen foliage? No

When your Copper Beech Bare Root is delivered, make sure you place it straight into a bucket of water for at least 2 hours, as the roots must be wet before planting. Ensure you drench the planting hole before, too, and don't forget to continually water the plant fairly throughout its developing growth.

It's quite a low maintenance plant and should only need to be pruned once/twice a year if looked after well. Feel free to give it a tidy-up in June, but we generally recommend sticking to trimming your Beech hedging at the end of Summer (around August time). This will ensure the hedge has enough time to recover before Winter.

It also tolerates hard pruning as it has a relatively fast growth rate and can easily, quickly, recover.
