Bare Root Common Dogwood Bundle 90/120cm x 250
(Cornus sanguinea)

Common Dogwood will produce a mixture of stunning, red/green stems during the Autumn/Winter seasons, adding a welcomed pop of colour during the duller days!

Common Dogwood produces creamy-white flowers during Spring, that are then soon followed with dark blue/black berries, of which sit on lush dark green, oval leaves that redden in Autumn before dropping off. This results in the gorgeous, bright red/green stems beneath being revealed.̴Ì?

Dogwood will look amazing when planted as a standalone hedge, or alternatively, planted amongst a mixed hedge for a bit of extra interest!̴Ì?

Cornus sanguinea is a tough natured plant that can survive in many soils (but always best planted in moist sites), and will thrive best in sun or partial shade.
  • Growth height: Average (20-40cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 2.5m+ Tall
  • Soil type: Normal
  • Exposure: Inland
  • Aspect: Full sun, semi-shade
  • Evergreen foliage? No

As soon as your Common Dogwood Bare Root arrives, dunk it into a bucket of fresh water for at least 2 hours. The roots must be wet when planted. Ensure you continually water the Dogwood throughout its growth, too, as it specifically prefers a moist site.̴Ì?

Do not prune your Dogwood within its first year of growth, as this is a crucial time for the plant to develop. After the first year, however, cut the plant down to its woody base (within 4" of the ground), before they bud. You must do this every year, along with feeding and watering the plant well after each pruning session. This will give you the very best and brightest stems possible.̴Ì?

It is also possible to bring old plants back to life by cutting away the old wood from the centre.̴Ì?
