Bare root Alder Buckthorn plants are only available and ready to plant in November - March, but can be pre-ordered at any time outside of the bare root season.
Alder Buckthorn's bark is dark brown, but when the inner bark is exposed, it has a much brighter, yellow colour. Unlike common buckthorn, Alder's maroon stems and branches are much smoother and have zero thorns.
One key thing to notice on Alder Buckthorn hedging is its perfectly alternating leaves along their twigs, with lateral veins. The hairy buds during Wintertime are a distinct Alder feature too!
As this is a bare root plant, you will need to plant it as soon as possible after delivery as the roots are tender and cannot be left to dry out.
