Rosa Rugosa 'Alba' has a prickly nature, making it ideal as an intruder deterrent hedge. With its interesting colour and wildlife interest, it looks lovely when placed into a mixed hedge- or just let it showcase its own individual attributes as a single species!̴Ì?

White Ramanus Rose produces large, deeply fragranced, white flowers during Summer, that soon develop into large, berry-like rose hips- all whilst being accompanied with lovely, glossy-green, crinkly foliage. It can easily grow into a dense bush, too, as its new growth comes from below ground level.

When your White Ramanus Rose is delivered, we highly recommend planting as soon as possible. The plant cannot be left for any longer than a couple of days, or so, as the roots are too tender and need to be protected by soil as soon as they can be.

Rosa Rugosa 'Alba' is quite a tough plant and can tolerate almost any soil type or site. The only site it cannot sit in is a waterlogged soil. It's also rather tolerant to coastal positions, but it always prefers a bit of sun and sandy soil.
  • Growth rate: Average (20-40cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 1.2m - 2.5m Medium
  • Soil type: Normal
  • Exposure: Coastal, exposed, inland
  • Aspect: Full shade, semi-shade, full sun
  • Evergreen foliage? No

As soon as your bare root plant arrives, place it into a bucket of water for at least 2 hours. The roots must be wet when planted.

Continue to water the plant regularly until it is well established (but do not let it become waterlogged).̴Ì?

In terms of maintenance, however, it's rather simple. White Ramanus Rose plants only require a general trim in Spring to remove the thinner twigs.

Root Types Summary

  • Bare Root
    Bare Root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring. We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the season but they can be pre-ordered in summer. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options.

  • Pot Grown
    Pot Grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and make a convenient option. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements.

  • Root Ball
    Root Ball

Also field grown, root ball plants are scooped out of the ground using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks. They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly.

  • Instant Hedging
    Instant Hedging

Grown in troughs or bags that measure 50cm-1 metre in length and carefully clipped during the growing season. Our instant hegding troughs create a dramatic, instant hedge effect.
