Make sure that when your Red Stemmed Dogwood bare root arrives, you place it straight into a bucket of water for at least 2 hours to help moisten the roots. They must be wet before planting- and you must continually water the plant well throughout its growth and development.̴Ì?
Dogwood should be given a hard prune. Do not prune in its first year of growth, but after this, cut the stems down to the base within 4" of the ground (every February/March before they bud). It's also very important to water and feed the plant well after pruning, as this will help with the production of some lovely, new, healthy shoots.̴Ì?
It's also possible to bring older plants back to life by cutting away the old wood from the centre. This will encourage growth of much brighter, and newer stems.̴Ì?
