Hornbeam plants tend to cling onto their leaves throughout Winter, turning into deep shades of yellow and orange. It also loves to boast pretty, little, green catkins in the late Spring, which then turn into fruits during late Autumn.̴Ì?

It's the perfect formal feature for any garden. It may look quite like Beech, too, but the leaves on Hornbeam plants have much deeper veins and serrated edges.̴Ì?

This̴Ì?150/175cm root ball̴Ì?Hornbeam plant has an average growth rate, and can grow above 2.5m tall in good conditions.

As it is highly resilient, Hornbeam can tolerate many poor soil conditions like shade, or clay/wet soils, and even high winds. It's rather easy to maintain when kept between 1 and 5m, too.

  • Growth rate: Average (20-40cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 2.5m+ Tall
  • Soil type: Normal
  • Exposure: Coastal, exposed, inland
  • Aspect: Semi-shade, sun
  • Evergreen foliage? No

When you receive your root ball plant, it will need to be planted within a couple of weeks or so and must be well-watered during this time. Do not allow the soil to dry out- this will more than likely damage the roots altogether.̴Ì?

In terms of pruning, however, it's quite a simple job. You can trim it as neat as you want, once a year, in the late Summer. This will ensure the plant retains its gorgeous Winter shades.
