Raspberry Polka Canes
(Rubus ideaus 'Polka')

The Raspberry Polka plant is one of the best out of the late season fruiting variety, as the large, sweet, red fruits are ready to pick by Autumntime.

The Raspberry Polka berries are long, aromatic, and known to have a long shelf life. The spine free canes make the Raspberry Polka plant disease resistant, and being a primocane, will bear an abundance of fruits on its very first year of growth. The plant will reach an ultimate height and spread of 1.5m x 0.5m.

We recommend planting your raspberry canes in moist, well-draining soil, and in a sheltered, sunny/partially shaded spot. It is also best to soak the root ball before planting, and mix in some fertiliser to the planting hole, to give the roots a big starting boost. Space the plants about 18" apart when planting. You must also regularly water the plants throughout its first year of growth.

  • Ideal height: 1.2m - 1.5m Medium
  • Soil type: Any soil
  • Aspect: Full sun, semi-shade, sheltered
  • Evergreen foliage? No
  • Crops: Late July- October

As this is a bare root plant, soak the roots for at least 2 hours before planting, after they arrive. Plant as soon as you can. If the ground is frozen, place into a temporary pot that's filled with decent compost- once conditions have improved, move the raspberry plant to the ground.

Keep the plant well-watered during dry weather.̴Ì?

All your Raspberry Polka requires in terms of pruning, is to cut down the canes to ground level after fruiting season is over (during the Winter). By the Spring, simply remove any unwanted canes, and tie in the new ones- fruit will appear on these canes by the Autumn.

    Bare Root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring. We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the season but they can be pre-ordered in summer. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options.

  • Pot Grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and make a convenient option. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements.

  • Root Ball
    Root Ball

Also field grown, root ball plants are scooped out of the ground using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks. They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly.
