Raspberry Tulameen Canes
(Rubus ideaus 'Tulameen')

Raspberry Tulameen plants produce fruit in the middle/end of Summer, and are popular amongst gardeners for their amazing quality and quantity of fruit.

Raspberry Tulameen plants produce outstanding fruits that are bright red with delicious, deep flavours. The canes are quite tall, but they are still easy to manage, and have a solid winter hardiness, meaning new canes are sometimes a little late to appear in Spring.̴Ì?

As it is a floricanes plant, the raspberry Tulameen will produce fruit on a year's old wood. After 2-5 years, it will reach an ultimate height and spread of 1.5m x 0.5m.

We recommend planting in a full sun position, and a south or west exposed site. This will give you the very best fruits.̴Ì?

The Tulameen does prefer sandy/loamy, well-draining, moist soil, but can still tolerate most soil types if the pH is acidic/neutral.

  • Ideal height: 1.2m - 1.5m Medium
  • Soil type: Any soil, but prefers sand or loam
  • Aspect: Full sun, facing South/West
  • Evergreen foliage? No
  • Crops: Mid July- late August

As this is a bare root plant, soak the roots for at least 2 hours before planting, after they arrive. Plant as soon as you can. If the ground is frozen, place into a temporary pot that's filled with decent compost- once conditions have improved, move the raspberry plant to the ground.

Keep the plant well-watered during dry weather.̴Ì?

To prune your Raspberry Tulameen canes, simply trim all the fruited stems down to ground level once they have finished fruiting. This will have to be done in the Autumn. Tie in new, green-coloured stems and provide supports, too. Fruit will grow on these canes the following Summer.

Root Types Summary

  • Bare Root
    Bare Root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring. We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the season but they can be pre-ordered in summer. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options.

  • Pot Grown
    Pot Grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and make a convenient option. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements.

  • Root Ball
    Root Ball

Also field grown, root ball plants are scooped out of the ground using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks. They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly.

  • Instant Hedging
    Instant Hedging

Grown in troughs or bags that measure 50cm-1 metre in length and carefully clipped during the growing season. Our instant hegding troughs create a dramatic, instant hedge effect.
