Rosa rugosa 'Alba' is a deciduous hedge, with a fast-growing, bushy, and dense habit - the perfect summer-flowering hedge for your garden.

We've dedicated time and care into growing your pot grown plant, so it arrives looking stunningly new and healthy.

The Rosa rugosa Alba will add wildlife interest as well as colour into a lovely mixed hedge, or it can be planted as a single species, as its prickly nature makes it a successful intruder deterrent. It is deeply fragranced, large, white flowers burst through in June and last until September, following with the largest berry-looking rose hip of any wild rose bush. It also has lush, glossy-green foliage that has a crinkly feel to it.

The plant can grow very densely, as new growth comes from below ground level, making it the ideal hedging plant if wanting to add some fresh and bright colours to your garden.

When it comes to soil and situation types, the White Ramanus Rose is a tough plant. It is not dependent on what soil or site it has (except it cannot sit in waterlogged soil) but does particularly like sun and a bit of sandy soil. It is also tolerant to coastal positions- hence it is sometimes called the Saltspray Rose.

As it is Pot Grown, you can easily leave the plant in its pot for a few days/weeks before planting it. Just ensure you keep the plant well-watered, and it gets enough sun. Don't leave it for too long, however, as you don't want the roots becoming root bound.

Looking after your Rose rugosa is simple, and all it requires is a general trim in Spring to get rid of the thinner twigs.

  1. Prepare the soil by mixing in some compost. Dig the hole- this will have to be about twice the width of the root system, but the same depth.
  2. Remove the plant from its pot by placing one hand at the base of the plant's stem, and the other at the bottom of the pot. Gently wriggle the pot away.
  3. Untangle the roots a little as they may be clumped together.
  4. Place the plant into the hole, ensuring the base of the stem is level with the surface of the soil. Follow this with backfilling the hole with your soil mix, and patting down lightly to secure.
  5. When you're done, thoroughly water the plant. Ensure you regularly water throughout its first year, as the plant needs plenty to be able to settle down, recover, and establish.
