Pot Grown Brachyglottis 'Sunshine'
(Brachyglottis Senecio 'Sunshine')

Brachyglottis ‰ۡÌÝÌáSunshine'̴Ì?will bring you a happy aesthetic to your garden all year-round, with its distinctive, lush, green foliage and bright yellow flowers.

Brachyglottis ‰ۡÌÝÌáSunshine,‰ۡó» is the perfect hedging plant for coastal sites, as it is very hardy and can suit pretty much any garden type. Though it's tough, its foliage is evergreen, with a distinctive grey-green colour, and bright yellow flowers (daisy like) appear in the summer through to early autumn, hence its name ‰ۡÌÝÌáSunshine.‰ۡó» As well as this, both the leaves and stems are smothered in a fuzzy textured white growth, which adds an extra feature for year-round interest.

The plant is fully tolerant of colder and exposed climates and grows well as a standalone or garden shrub- in any location! It can also make an attractive informal flowering hedge, and can grow to around 1m, so it is ideal for anyone wanting a flowering, evergreen hedge, that is hardy and durable to many situations.

Your Brachyglottis ‰ۡÌÝÌáSunshine‰ۡó» can be planted in full sun or semi-shaded areas, and in a moist soil that is well drained. Other than that, it is a tough plant that is prepared for many types of sites.

  • Growth height: Slow (10-20cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 1.2m-2.5m Medium
  • Soil Type:̴Ì?Normal
  • Exposure: Coastal, Exposed, Inland, Sheltered
  • Aspect:̴Ì?Semi-shade, Sun
  • Evergreen foliage? Yes

As it is pot grown, you can easily leave the plant in its pot for a few days/weeks before planting it. Just make sure you keep it well-watered, and it gets enough sun. Don't leave it for too long, however, as you don't want the roots becoming root bound.

You should trim your Brachyglottis Senecio ‰ۡÌÝÌáSunshine‰ۡó» once a year, after its flowering period, in order to maintain the bushy shape it desires.

  1. Prepare the soil by mixing in some compost. Dig the hole- this will have to be about twice the width of the root system, but the same depth.
  2. Remove the plant form its pot by placing one hand on the base of the plant, and the other at the bottom of the pot. Wriggle the pot away gently.
  3. Untangle the roots a little as they may be clumped together.
  4. Place the plant into the hole, ensuring the base of the stem is level with the surface of the soil. Follow this with backfilling the hole with your soil mix, and patting down lightly to secure.
  5. When you're done, thoroughly water the plant. Ensure you regularly water throughout its first year, as the plant needs plenty to be able to settle down, recover, and establish.
