Laurustinus 'Eve Price'
(Viburnum tinus)

Laurustinus is an evergreen hedge that flowers through the winter, and boasts lush, glossy, deep-green leaves̴Ì?which perfectly compliment the striking flowers.

The Laurustinus ‰ۡÌÝÌáEve Price,‰ۡó» is a stunning hedge that is ideal for ornamental purposes as an informal hedge and brings you lovely year-round interest with its wonderful style and range of colours. The flowers on this plant also transform into pretty, little blue-black berries, which welcome foraging birds- please acknowledge that we do not advise eating these berries, even though they are not classed as toxic.

The Viburnum tinus ‰ۡÌÝÌáEve Price,‰ۡó» can grow about 45cm per annum when it is young, but as it matures, the plant‰ۡó»s growth will begin to slow down- it will still reach a height of approximately 4m tall. It can create a lovely display in your garden and can be mixed with other evergreen hedge plants which flower at different times- this will provide you with visual interest through all the seasons.

The Viburnum tinus is a plant that is somewhat easy to grow and can grow in both partial and full shade. Natural sunlight is generally best to enable it to flower nicely. We do recommend placing in clay or moist soils, but it can also grow well in any but alkaline/dry soils. This hardy shrub will also tolerate windy, coastal, and exposed sites.

  • Growth height: Fast (40-60cm per year)
  • Ideal height: 2.5m+ Tall
  • Soil Type: Normal, Wet
  • Exposure: Coastal, Exposed
  • Aspect: Semi-shade, Full shade
  • Evergreen foliage? Yes

It will need to be trimmed after flowering in the late Spring, just by taking back the long shoots to slightly above the nodes, as well as needing to remove any diseased/dead wood to retain its shape and maintain a lovely, healthy plant.

When should I plant Laurustinus hedging?

We recommend planting Viburnum tinus during the autumn, for best results, but it can also be planted in spring if bought as a container grown specimen. We advise avoiding planting in strong heat or freezing temperatures, but it will adapt to most soil types and locations elsewise.

How far apart do you plant Laurustinus plants?

In general, it is best to plant Laurustinus around 2ft apart (60cm).

For smaller plants, you can go for around 30cm apart to encourage a dense hedge much quicker. For larger plants (above 60cm), stick to 2ft spacing.

How to plant Laurustinus:

Planting your Laurustinus is fairly simple. Begin by digging a hole that is twice as wide but the same depth as the plant's root ball, and incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the backfill soil.

Then plant the Viburnum at the same depth as they were in their pots (ensuring the base of the stem is at ground level). Follow this by backfilling with the soil mix and patting down to secure the plant as you go along.

Water the plant very well and continue to water around 2-3 times per week to ensure the roots have enough nutrients to grow and develop.

    Bare Root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring.
